A failed insanity defense for Eddie Ray Routh will result in a life of imprisonment for murdering Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield on a shooting range in Texas two years ago.

Despite  having a “paranoid disorder” and being described by his victim as “straight-up nuts” in a text-message the day of the shooting, Mr. Rouse was found competent and guilty of murder.

The State of Texas was not seeking the death penalty, possibly due to the expected plea of insanity. Judge Richardson dismissed Mr. Routh’s PTSD defense, a known mental disorder, and handed down the verdict of “guilty of capital murder”.

Apparently  “straight-up nuts” does not equate to”legally  insane” in the State of Texas  .
