JONES

The most influential person in the music business in the history of the music business turns 82 today.

Born Quincy Delight Jones JR in 1933 Chicago, Jones has had a career that has spanned decades.

With 79 Grammy Nominations and 27 wins under his belt, Jones holds the record for most Grammies held by a producer.

His first Academy award nomination came in 1968 for his song “The Eyes of Love” from the film Banning (1967) making him the first African-American to be nominated so.

Jones produced all of the late Lesley Gore’s hits including “It’s My Party”

Jones his best known for when his golden touch met the sequined glove  of Michael Jackson. Jones was the producer on Jackson’s albums Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), and Bad (1987), as well as being the producer and conductor of the 1985 charity song “We Are the World”.

Jones was not limited to pop-music however, he also composed the themes to Sandford & Son and The Bill Cosby Show.

Jones is also a member of a very small group of composers to have worked with Steven Spielberg. Besides himself, only Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams have created scores for the great filmmaker. Jones composed the score to The Color Purple for Spielberg.
