Hugh Jackman took part in the world’s first live holographic interview. Jackman appeared in Berlin, Germany to promote the film Chappie (2015) in the Spanish city of Madrid.

Reminiscent of  Princess Leia and R2D2 from Star Wars (1977), the historical conference was performed utilizing a high-tech solution from Musion 3D holographic projections.

Holograms have appeared in the past of both Tupac and Michael Jackson, not without controversy. Several companies have taken credit for the technology, with one of the firms going bankrupt. Allegations and accusations have surfaced of stolen technology and false claims in regards to the tech. It has been purported that the Tupac hologram was not a hologram at all but a 2D projection.

Dennis Gabor, a Hungarian-British physicist is first credited with the invention of holographic technology. Gabor was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1971 “for his invention and development of the holographic method”.

Jackman’s Chappie (2015) is set to be released on March 6.
