Subscribing to the mantra of “Why fix it if it ain’t broken?” the creators of the Fast & Furious franchise will be releasing yet another one of their 2 hour fun-house rides of car chases, gun-fights and crashes.
Proving that personalities not performances fill theater seats, the seventh installment stars such ticket-selling names as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Vin Diesal and Jason Statham. The late Paul Walker also makes his last appearance in this film having died in a “life imitating art” car accident.
The title of the film franchise is hardly original having been ripped from a 1955 film of the same name. First launched in 2001 Fast & Furious starred Walker, Diesel and Michelle Rodriquez. Fast & Furious (2001) was Rodriquez’ biggest role since her break-out stardom in Girlfight (2000).
14 years later Fast & Furious 7 (2015) hits theaters April 3rd. Viewers can expect more high-speed chases, gravity defying stunts and other bad science. If you like watching brightly colored vehicles flip & turn inexplicably and dirty sweaty people shooting guns while magically not getting hit themselves than you will not be disappointed. Don’t expect break-through acting performances or scenes with subtle meaning and subtext, more than likely you will leave the theater feeling as though you just watched some lost episode of the A-Team.
