Greece’s prime minister, Alex Tsipras rejects further bailouts and austerity measures describing them a “cruel” and pledging to heal the “wounds” caused by the measures.

“The bailout failed. We want to make clear in every direction what we are not negotiating. We are not negotiating our national sovereignty.” the defiant Tsipras announced to a supportive Greek parliament.

In the past austerity programs have been described by some economists as being  “anti-developmental”, self-defeating”, and having an adverse impact on the poorest segments of the population”.

Tsipras has stated that Eurozone austerity measures have created a “humanitarian crisis” while Greek Finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis warns that if Greece is forced out of the Eurozone, other nations would follow suit.

With the majority of Greeks in support of Tsipras; a confidence vote is expected to pass.
