Happy Birthday Steve Harris of Iron Maiden!

Sure lead-singers get all the fame and publicity. Most people would be hard-pressed to name the other three members of The Doors or U2 for example, while everyone knows the household names of Jim Morrison and Bono.

The same can be said for Iron Maiden and its well known front man Bruce Dickinson. Dickinson most recently has been in the news due to his recent struggle with cancer.

True music fans know that much of The Doors greatest music was writtten by the late keyboardists Ray Manzarek and much of U2’s writing is done by their guitarist “The Edge” and any true metal fan worth half their weight in salt knows that Maiden’s creative impetus lies mostly in Steve Harris.

Harris a U.K. native is the bassist for the band and one of only two members that have remained a member of the band through-out all its incarnations.

Dickinson is actually the second singer of the band, and the fourth; having been replaced during one of his solo stints away from the iconic group.

Harris is known for his “gallop” style playing that has lent itself to the Maiden sound. A good example of his trademark riff is best demonstrated in the song “Run to the Hills” where it seems to mimic the thunderous hooves of the U.S. cavalry depicted in the song.

Harris turns 58 today March 12, 2015.
