Boris Nemtsov, an outspoken critic of President Putin who was shot and killed in Moscow may have had irrefutable evidence of Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine.
Allegations of Russian sanctioned troops and armaments has been dismissed by President Vladimir Putin who has made claims that it was but “miners & farmers” fighting in the Ukrainian conflict.
The murder of Nemtsov has raised concerns over a nationalistic fervor that has taken hold in the former Soviet Union. In response to the specter of nationalism, several thousand pro-Nemtsov supporters marched through the streets of Moscow with placards that pointed fingers at Putin himself as the suspected culprit in the murder.
One sign held by a protester read “It’s a geopolitical catastrophe when a KGB officer declares himself president for life. Putin resign!”
Putin himself has described the attack as “vile”, “shameful” and a “disgrace to Russia”.
Nemtsov’s critique of the Ukrainian conflict had been growing more and more intense with accusations being leveled against Putin directly.
Two weeks before Mr. Nemtsov’s murder, the victim revealed he had scathing evidence tying the Russian government to the Ukrainian conflict which he claimed he received from Russian paratroopers stationed in the Crimean Peninsula.
President Putin as said that he will lead the investigation into Nemtsov’s murder personally.
