Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame has died at the age of 83. Nimoy was recently admitted to the hospital complaining of chest pains. Nimoy himself attributed the pains to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as a result of him smoking cigarettes in the past.

Nimoy first played the beloved Vulcan in the 1960’s series Star Trek alongside co-star William Shatner. Nimoy reprised his role in the 2013 film Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Leonard Nimoy will be sorely missed in the science-fiction community. Mr. Nimoy leaves behind his wife Susan and two children.
