Carnival season is here, also known as Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday.

Made popular by the New Orleans, Bourbon Street fairs and Brazilian & Caribbean Carnival, this “Festival of the Flesh” is a time for “sinning” and eating amongst many Catholics who will find themselves in confessionals on the subsequent Ash Wednesday in preparation for the fasting of Lent and the upcoming Easter holiday less than three weeks away.

The New Orleans holiday is accompanied by beads of  purple, green and gold that woman reveling on the infamous Bourbon Street will lift their shirts up for; exposing their breasts for the colored baubles

Locale celebrations can opt out of the breast-baring and adopt the cuisine of the Louisiana bayou instead. One could partake in such regional favorites like gumbo, crawfish, or perhaps the rum-filled libation known as the Hurricane.
