- Drink what you like. Don’t worry about rules when drinking wine. Most people drink red wine with red meat (beef) and white wine with white meat (chicken & fish). If you like chardonnay with your filet mignon or merlot with your chicken provençal, Go for it.
- Stick with what you know. If you find a vineyard you like whether it is Kendall Jackson or Julio Gallo, stick with it. The grass is not always greener on the other-side when it comes to wine. Find one red & one white that you like for yourself and others. Being adventurous does not always pay off.
- Don’t buy the most expensive wine. Don’t waste you money at the restaurant attempting to impress a date. Keep in mind that alcohol can be marked-up to over 400% in a restaurant. Make note of the vineyard & vintage and purchase the wine at a retail outlet instead.
- Don’t buy the cheapest wine. This rule only applies when purchasing bottles at a restaurant. The cheapest is the cheapest for a reason despite the mark-up. Find a bottle priced in the mid-range on the wine-list for the best cost-to-value ratio.
